Location: Maidenhead, Berkshire
Project Type: Residential Interior Design
Scope: Layout redesign, full interior scheme, FF&E specification, on-site guidance
A full-house transformation combining Japandi-inspired simplicity with practical, family-focused design, creating a calm, cohesive home tailored to modern living.
The property required significant rethinking to better support the needs of the family. The layout felt disjointed, with opportunities to improve flow, proportions, and overall functionality both upstairs and down.
Accessibility was also a key consideration, as the family needed the ground floor to work seamlessly for wheelchair use, without compromising on style or comfort.
Upstairs, we reconfigured the bedroom layouts to create better proportions and introduced a dedicated home office with views over the garden. The master suite was redesigned to include a luxurious ensuite, featuring bespoke detailing, a level-threshold shower, a custom headboard, and rich walnut tones. A second bedroom was enhanced with a new ensuite, incorporating fluted blue tiles and a contemporary bidet WC.
Downstairs, the focus was on creating a more unified and accessible living space. Doorways were widened, and level thresholds were introduced to allow easy movement throughout and direct access to the garden. Furniture layouts were carefully considered to ensure ease of use, while maintaining a balanced and refined aesthetic.
To bring cohesion to the space, we used consistent finishes and subtle zoning techniques, including mirrors, furniture placement, and a metal room divider. The lounge was transformed with acoustic slat panelling, deep green tones, and a bespoke media unit, adding both warmth and functionality.
Throughout the home, we sourced furniture to align with the Japandi aesthetic, alongside refurbishing key existing pieces. Finishing touches such as electric blinds, soft furnishings, and integrated air conditioning ensured comfort and practicality in every season.
The result is a calm, considered home that balances elegance with everyday functionality. Thoughtful design decisions and careful detailing have created a space that feels cohesive, accessible, and effortless to live in.
This project is a reflection of how well-planned design can support real life, enhancing comfort, improving flow, and bringing a sense of ease to the home.
We are proud to share that this project has also been featured as an inspiration piece on Channel 4’s George Clarke’s Beautiful Builds.

“I initially approached Jo to help me with optimising our upstairs floor plan in a property we had recently purchased. With her experience in design and project management, our discussions broadened significantly to include a reworking of the downstairs space for my disabled son, and a complete makeover of the entire house.
Thankfully we were not living at the house during these major internal works, however it was great to know that Jo was overseeing all works on site. Her advice and support with selecting furnishings was also hugely helpful – she was quickly able to grasp my style and taste.
We now have a wonderful new space to enjoy – thank you Jo for helping us achieve our dream home.”
